The police report comes across the desk, describing a sexual assault by a grown man on a minor. Although it doesn’t explicitly say, on close reading it becomes clear the victim, usually a young girl, was a family member.
There is no box for incest on police reports. It happens more frequently than we know. If the suspect and victim have the same name, police would redact the victim’s name. Newspapers, typically, wouldn’t report incidents of incest in order to protect the identity of the child.
