Seven names. Seven victims of domestic violence homicide.
Six of those deaths are among the record breaking 18 homicides that occurred in Leon County this year. The victims were killed by a family member, a partner or while attempting to intervene in a domestic violence dispute.
Tiffany Nance, Beulah Mae Wright, Devin Landers, Rosario Sanchez, Paula Portillo, Taris Nickolas, and Shameria Thomas.
The names were read by Refuge House Executive Director Meg Baldwin at a recent Refuge House Domestic Violence Awareness Month Candlelight Vigil and Survivor Speak-Out. The event drew about 250 people from all backgrounds and acted as a haven where survivors could tell their stories.
