Refuge House is always available to assist survivors of domestic and sexual violence during the COVID-19 pandemic. The challenges of dealing with the coronavirus has added another layer of danger for victims, who have found traditional methods of outreach to connect with programs and services through our agency limited as they navigate remaining in close living situations with their abusers. We want you to know that we are still here and ready to help when you are able to reach out.
Updated Operations: Most non-residential client services will occur over the phone, via skype, and FaceTime when available. Our emergency shelters are operational in accordance with CDC and HUD guidelines. The 24/7 crisis hotline remains available to assist with client needs. If it’s not safe to call but you still need help, you can email the hotline staff 24/7 at helpdesk@refugehouse.com.
How You Can Help: In these unprecedented times, your financial support is needed now more than ever. We are always in need of monetary contributions, and all gifts make a difference. We are continuing to accept critical donations for the emergency shelters located in Leon and Taylor counties such as non-perishable food, gift cards, toiletries, and cleaning supplies. To make a donation of these items, please email mfrier@refugehouse.com. We are unable to accept donations of clothing, furniture or household items at this time.
Related Cancellations: To limit exposure risk to staff and survivors, Refuge House has made the following difficult choices: our Volunteer & Intern Program has been temporarily suspended. Staff speaking engagements have been suspended, however, we are available to provide trainings remotely or provide pre-recorded videos. Our participation in community events has also been temporarily suspended and will resume at a later date.
The rapidly changing circumstances regarding this public health crisis can be anxiety provoking for many of us. We want all of you to know that we are with you! Our communities are strong, resilient, and together we will get through this! Let’s take care of ourselves and each other!
