Carmela’s Place at Refuge House:  For Those Who’ve Been Harmed in the Sex Trade

 Through the Refuge House “We Know Prostitution Hurts” program, survivors of the sex trade have been provided group and individual counseling, case management, emergency shelter, transitional housing and more, all free of charge.   

 In 2021, this vital program was renamed to honor of one of the first women to enter the program, Carmela. Through this program, Refuge House provides a full range of comprehensive, low-barrier services for those seeking safety from harm within any system of sexual exploitation.

 Services include: 

Specialized safety planning on the 24/7 crisis hotline.

Emergency shelter and transitional housing.

Individual and group counseling.

Mental Health Therapy.

Information and referrals to specialized service providers.

Specialized counseling and case management services for incarcerated survivors.

Relocation and transportation assistance.

Targeted outreach efforts.

Information about the dynamics of prostitution.
