Be sure to mark March 12-16 on your planners as chill days, because #SpringBreak2k18 is here!!! Time to kick back and relax with your crew – maybe go to the beach, ride some roller coasters, or get down on a dance floor. There are TONS of cool things you could do on your week off, so y’all better start thinking about your plans!
But being real: the best thing to plan for over spring break is making sure you and your squad are safe, no matter what you choose to do. Things can get wild with so much excitement in the air, so it’s important that you’re prepared in case things get out of hand. That’s right: this is a Green Dot Spring Break!!!
We know y’all are familiar with the three D’s for when a situation is heating up (Red Dots), but juuuuuust in case you need a reminder, here they are:
Direct: You can calm down a Red Dot situation by directly approaching the people involved. You can ask things like, “are you good?” or simply tell someone to “chill out.”
Distract: If you aren’t comfortable getting involved in a Red Dot situation, do something to distract the scene!! You can “trip” between them, “accidentally” play a stupid song near them, or even ask one of them if they know where the bathroom is.
Delegate: Lastly, if the situation looks like it is ramping up quickly, you may want to delegate to someone else, especially if they can help more than you could. This can be a bold friend, a stranger, a trusted adult, or even calling 911 if needed (you can do it when you “leave” the scene so that nobody even knows you called for help… seriously).
Take a second to think about what your best direct, distract and delegate tools are just in case you need them over the break. Think about what you’d do if you see a friend or stranger in trouble. You’d want someone to help you if you needed it, right? And don’t forget, you can prevent any drama by staying chill and putting good vibes out in your area ahead of time! We want you to have a safe and fun Spring Break, and we want to hear all about it when you get back! If y’all each do at least one Green Dot, this is gonna be the best Spring Break ever!
